About Green Corps

Mission Australia 's Green Corps projects offer young people, aged between 17 and 20, the opportunity to receive quality training while contributing to environmental and cultural heritage initiatives. Green Corp is an Australian Government youth development program.

Green Corps projects provide participants with a quality experience in real learning and opportunities to contribute to community building within an environment and/or heritage context.

Who is eligible?

If you are between 17 and 20 and an Australian citizen, you can apply to take part in one of our Green Corps projects. Non-citizens who can demonstrate that they satisfy Youth Allowance residence requirements are also eligible.

What does it involve?

Participants undertake a 26 week project, following their selection into the programme. Participants are provided with a uniform and a training allowance and are expected to be involved 5 days a week, full time.

Participants receive accredited training, environmental experience, and the opportunity to make their mark on Australia 's cultural and environmental heritage.

By taking part in a Green Corps project, participants will gain improved career and employment prospects through accredited training, structured work activities and work experience.

Training

Accredited Training is undertaken in Horticulture and First Aid.

Experience is not necessarily limited to environmental work, although this is the main area of training. Participants may undertake a community venture which can involve learning new skills in public relations, marketing, event management , education, media relations, website production and more.

On completion of the project

Green Corps graduates have commenced careers as national parks rangers, vet nurses, landscape gardeners, mechanics, website designers, landcare coordinators, forestry workers and fire fighters.

Others have pursued further study in horticulture, journalism, environmental management, tourism, heritage, e nvironmental science and applied science.

As a partner agency, Mission Australia runs Green Corps projects in South Australia and West ern Australia .

Green Corps is an Australian Government Youth Development programme.
